    Hi,
Does anyone know a place were I can rent movie guns. I live in the Uk.
Up to this point we have bought many blank firing guns however the cost of this is too expensive so we need to rent some.

If any knows a website that would be great. The guns dont have to be blank firing but look realistic. Thanks.

Hmm, I live in the UK as well but the way I use guns is to get a bb or air soft one and use Alam DV to make the effects, not actually that bad.

Airsoft guns are great to use, the problem is we dont even have the money to buy them. We need some airsoft guns like AK's which cost around ?300.
Are movie budget is only about ?1,000. Its our first movie we have ever made.

Quick question on currency conversion... ?300 is approximately $450 (American), right? At ?300, you're probably looking at the airsoft full automatic electric guns (AEG's). These are expensive, but they're a lot of fun. Also, they have some more weight to them that makes them feel dangerously real.

The economy alternative is the spring action airsoft rifles. For example, instead of buying the $500 electric L85 assault rifle (that's the rifle the British Army uses), get the $100 spring action version.

These guys have it on sale for $80 (approximately ?55?):

    Hope this helps.

A word of caution... be careful where you are using them. These "toys" are 1:1 scale replicas of the real thing. They WILL look real to law enforcement officers.

Yes they look very real. Someone who took my film class a few years before me was shooting a terrorist short film in a multistory car park. Half way through shooting the place was surrounded by police officers and armed police. The Queen was only over the road launching one of her boats. man they got into trouble. Remember kids, always tell the local authorities if you are on location and using weapons.

Try www.battleorders.co.uk they sell blank firers, soft air and the electric guns. and the prices start from about ?30. The guns themselves look real enough just need to add some decent sound effects and you'll be sorted.

So, if I want to have the hammer kick back, I would want to get a gas-powered air-soft gun right?

There are a few battery powered Airsoft pistols with blowback action, but I would definitely recomend looking into the gas-powered airsoft guns. NOTE: Not all of the gas-powered pistols have a working slide so you'll want to verify that before you make your purchase!

A side benefit to the gas-powered guns is that the condensed gas is cold. When it get to the end of the barrel, you'll see a small cloud of condensation at the tip of the barrel that looks a lot like smoke, which is a nice alternative to trying to generate CGI volumetrics. Add a frame or two of a muzzle flash, some sound effects, and the odd shell casing and you've got yourself a very convincing firearm.

By the way, if you need to add the sound of the empty shells hitting the ground but don't have access to the real thing, try dropping nails on the ground. The sound is close enough to fool most people.
